Malignant Myoepithelioma of the Gland of the Third Eyelid in a Dog

Malignant myoepithelioma is an uncommon tumor in companion animals, derived from
myoepithelial cells in secretory glands. Here we report a malignant myoepithelioma of
the gland of the third eyelid in a dog. A 12 year-old female miniature dachshund dog
was presented with a mass (4 × 3 × 2 cm) occupying the left palpebral fissure. A
surgical excision was performed. Histologically, the mass was mostly composed of
atypical spindle cells with clear cytoplasm, stained positive for p63 and -SMA but
negative for cytokeratin. Based on these findings, this case was diagnosed as malignant
myoepitheliomaof the gland of the third eyelid.
