Dr. Rebecca
Rhoades, DVM (Dr. Becky)

Dr. Becky is the executive director of the Kauai Humane Society. She oversees
twenty-three staff to provide animal management services for the County of
Kauai, a public spay/neuter clinic, private pet boarding and quarantine services,
a thrift store in Lihue and the sheltering of over 6,000 animals annually.
The Kauai Humane Society opened a new facility in 2001 and is certified as
an American Red Cross pet-friendly emergency evacuation shelter. The Society
is the only public animal shelter on the island.
Dr. Becky began her work in the animal care field in the late 1970fs as a humane
officer in Colorado and later attended veterinary school there in the 80fs.
After practicing veterinary medicine primarily on horses for eight years in
Hawaii, she returned to shelter work as the staff veterinarian and then as
director of operations for seven years with the Hawaiian Humane Society. In
this position, she worked on improving conditions and handling of sixteen thousand
cats a year in addition to the twelve thousand other animals received at the
shelter on Oahu.
In 2001, Dr. Becky returned to the islands after a brief tenure as director
for Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control in Florida. She initially commuted
to Kauai from Oahu as the interim director for Kauai Humane Society and then
accepted the full time executive director position and moved to Kauai in
2003.
In addition, Dr. Becky works as a consultant for HSUS (The Humane Society of
the United States) including the Taiwan stray dog project. In 2004, she successfully
became nationally accredited as a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator. In
2005, Dr. Becky was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of The Society
of Animal Welfare Administrators and is Chairperson of their disaster committee.
She loves living in Kalaheo and enjoys swimming, walking with her dog, Stella
and playing golf in her free time.

Mr. Teruhisa KAKINOKI

Teruhisa Kakinoki was born in Osaka in 1967 and graduated from the Department of Liberal Atrs, Tokyo University. He made his public debut with a lead page article in Brutus Magazine in 1993, which was a special feature on Bossa Nova, a genre in Brazilian popular music. Since then he has continued writing about Brazilian music, rock music, and about Osaka. From around 2004, he has been involved with citizen volunteering related to the Ashiya City Museum of Art and History. In 2005 he became Deputy Board Chairman of the NPO eAshiya Museum Managementf. He is author of eBakatare Shikkarisef (Come on, Get Your Act Together!), published by Kodansha, and the eDefinitive Edition - Bossa Nova CDs, Top 100f from Kawade Shobo Shinsha, and is co-author of e200 Rock-Go Jitenf (Encyclopedia of 200 Rock Languages) from Gakken.
