Founded
in 1981 by the merging of the International Society for the Protection
of Animals (established 1959) and the World Federation for the Protection
of Animals (established 1950)
Aims: To eliminate pain, suffering, injury and abuse to animals wherever
possible worldwide.
The Head Office of WSPA is in London, and there are 10 regional offices:
Canada, USA, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Kenya, Australia
and New Zealand.
WSPA has 528 member organizations in 92 countries, 4 of them in Japan.

Founded
in 1841, has the longest history in Germany. With 18,000 members and donations
from 25,000 individuals. Self-managed animal protection facility since
100 years ago is largest in Germany, and the organization is now constructing
the largest facility in the world for a cost of 65 million Deutsch marks
(= 4 thousands million Yen).

Amelia Tarzi,

Amelia
Tarzi was born in Afghanistan and trained as a lawyer in the USA and England.
She started working as a volunteer at a shelter with the responsibility
for handling adoptions and investigating cases of cruelty. In Switzerland,
she was State Commissioner for the surveillance of animal experiments,
and also founded a 24 hour animal ambulance service. In 1992 she joined
the ASPCA New York office to start a program to promote the use of alternatives
to animal experiments and was involved in teaching humane education in
primary schools. She has more recently been in charge animal cruelty investigations,
including litigation in France while also organizing training courses
for animal cruelty inspectors.

is the largest animal protection organization in the USA with 10 offices
nationally and over 8 million supporters. Protection and research work
covers wild animals, industrial animals and companion animals.
