Greetings
On the day of the festival we were delighted to welcome your President Mr. Hammer, who brought along his two much-loved dogs. Likewise we were pleased to greet Mr. Takayama, General Manager of the Customer Development Department who also kindly attended.
Mr. Takahashi the area manager in charge of Western Japan of Pro-Channel Section was also on-site to hand out PRO PLAN samples. We are very grateful for their attendance.
Thanks to your ongoing support, this event, the eLive-Love Animals Festival Enjoy Sports with Dogsf has now reached its 6th year. This festival has been popular every year but this year, in particular, the turn out of people bringing their dogs was even better. There are no other dog sports events like this for beginners in Kansai, so each year, there are more and more people looking forward to this festival and some come quite far to take a part. This is very encouraging for us, the organizers. The fact that this event has grown to be so popular and welcome is entirely thanks to the support and cooperation of your company. |

On the Day of the Festival
The weather on the morning of 12th November was promising, and the festival enjoyed a good start with many people turning out with their beloved animals. Favored with comfortable temperatures, a great number of people were able to enjoy the Festival all @@@day long. eCanicrossf and emusical canine free-stylef (dancing) were new additions to this yearfs competition program as well as the long-standing efrisbeef, eagilityf @and egig-racef (dogs run with bicycles) contests.
Contestants received, as participation gifts, a JFA official Frisbee for the Frisbee contest, a dogfs bandana for the agility and musical canine free style contests, and a harness and line for the gig-race. For the new contest, canicross, a specially developed waist belt and a harness was given out. (Hotta Corporation provided the bandanas, harnesses, lines and waist belts). |

Opening
This time the event was held jointly with Kobe City Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. At the opening, the organizationfs president, Mrs. Yada, wife of Kobe Cityfs Mayor gave a speech. She commented, ethrough such opportunities as this, I hope people will better appreciate the joy of living with loving dogs, the importance of life and need for improved coexistence between people and animals.f
Your president Mr. Hammer, as representative of the special sponsor, brought his dogs to the venue. The dogs, which he brought to Japan from Budapest, include Gee-Gee an Irish Wolfhound and Hanna a Labrador. Mr. Takayama, General Manager of the Customer Development Department accompanied them as well. They were introduced at the opening ceremony and were warmly welcomed by the audience. Everybody applauded enthusiastically, an expression of gratitude for all the years of support. Gee-Gee came in for special attention as Irish wolfhounds are very rare in Japan. Gee-Gee is a particularly magnificent example of this breed which is apparently the tallest dog in the world. |

Contests
yFrisbee Dogz
In the Frisbee contest there were two categories; eretrievingf (using balls and toys) and ebeginnersf (using frisbees). It was great to see the combined actions of the thrower (the owner) and the catcher (the dog). Some dogs clearly lived up to their ownersf expectations and gave wonderful performances but others were quite happy to misbehave half way through the performance or begin to play. Whatever happened, this contest for beginners was a very warm-hearted event.
|
|
|
|
yAgilityz
In the agility contest, there were first-timers among the beginners. Standard eOPDESf rules (Novice 1 section) were used. Contestants were classified according to eminif or estandardf sizes.
In this sport, the dogs have to clear various obstacles following their ownerfs instructions. There were some amusing moments in this contest too, such as the dog that took a liking to the tunnel so much that he would not come out. Another dog overshot the obstacle and started running off in the opposite direction. |

yGig Race¥Canicrossz
The gig-race venue served as site for the gig-race and new canicross contests. eCanicrossf is a 100m race in which dog and owner run together, racing towards the goal. Some dog/owner teams were so powerful they could not stop even after reaching the goal. There was one dog that turned back to see if his owner, who could not keep up, was OK. Each team seemed to have its own unique personality and the event was great fun for everyone. |
|
|
|
yMusical ‚b‚‚Ž‚‰‚Ž‚… Free Stylez
Until now, Musical Canine Free Style (dancing) has probably been more familiar as an exhibition sport. From this year, however, it has been restyled as a contest. We were, at first, concerned there might not be enough entries but the solo section attracted 13 entrants. This contest was held after all the other contests were over and, as a result, there was a large audience to see the results of the dayfs efforts. Each entry pair had chosen their own music, costume and choreography. The audience was impressed by the liveliness and synchronization of the contestants and applauded loudly. |
|
|
|
Exhibition Sports
After all the competitions were over it was time for the exhibition performance sports eFrisbee dogf, eagilityf and emusical canine free-stylef.
In the Frisbee dog performance, a single person throws Frisbees to several dogs one after the other. The audience particularly applauded one young girl in the junior category who threw her Frisbees so well. For the agility demonstration, the demonstration was accompanied by an explanation of all terms involved. For the musical canine exhibition, two teams of owner/dog pairs danced simultaneously with coordinated timing. |

Store Booths
Under the big roof, there were various stores selling all sorts of dog related goods and foodstuffs. The atmosphere was lively. This year, some stores sold out of their product stock early on which provides another indication of the excellent turn out the event enjoyed.
There was a booth of photographs taken by a professional cameraman. The photographs captured many lively and happy expressions from both dogs and owners alike. Many owners could be seen eagerly looking over the collection to find photographs of their dogs. Those lucky enough to find their dog being used as a model received the framed photograph as a surprise gift at the award ceremony. There were several overjoyed owners as a result. |

|
Conclusion
The Festival was held safely and many people enjoyed it all the way through to the end. Several people commented to the event staff how much they would look forward to next yearfs festival. Each time the participation numbers and visitor numbers have increased and the circle of friendship is obviously expanding. The growth and development of this event is all thanks to the understanding and support of every one concerned. We are most keen to continue holding this Live-Love Animals Festival eEnjoy Sports with Dogsf into the future. It has become a much loved sports event for people and animals.
Thank you very much! |
