The
morning of our event was wet and rainy. However, despite the weather
there were many participants
and they had all come to the venue to have a good time with their dogs.
This time, thanks to the generosity of Hotta Corporation, all participating
dogs were presented with a special event uniform - a great hit with all
lucky enough to receive one! To
kick off the event Knots Representative Ms. Tominaga made an opening
speech. She said: gThis event is part of the commemorations for the
10th Anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Ten years
have passed since the quake but we have not forgotten the determination
shown in the recovery, and we should never forget how we all helped
one another and pulled together. 10 years on, our main wish now is
that everyone will have a good time during this dog-sports event,
and
take full advantage of a great opportunity to meet and talk with
other people thorough our dogsh. |

yAgility Sectionz This section featured an obstacle race for the dogs and was divided into a Beginners Competition and Ordinary Competition, each subdivided according to the size of the dogs (whether miniature dogs, and dachshunds etc.). As a demonstration of the trust between dogs and their owners, the dogs had to clear obstacles following their ownersf orders and commands. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
yGig-Race Sectionz In short, for this kind of race the dogs have to pull a bicycle. However, it is also permitted for dog owners to push and run with the bicycle. A short distance course was designed for smaller and older dogs to enjoy, and one of the key attractions of the race was that it allowed dogs to take part whatever their condition. There was a 50 meter race and a 100m race. From miniature dachshunds to large dogs (such as Bouvier des Flandres), various dogs participated. The ground was muddy due to the rain so both dogs and owners ended up in a mess and soaked through. Yet they all looked thoroughly pleased and happy. |

When the contests were over, the guest specialist associations gave their own Frisbee Dog and Agility demonstrations. The amazing skills the dogs displayed were most impressive and the audience was truly enthusiastic in its applause.
There was also a eK-9 Free Stylef dance performance. In time with the music, both the dogs and their human partners performed stylish and fun routines that brought a really enjoyable atmosphere to the proceedings.
With the demonstrations over, an awards ceremony was held and the top three winners of each competition announced. Winning owners were called to the stage to receive certificates and prizes. Camera flashguns fired to capture the proud and happy expressions of each happy winner.

To finish the day off, a lucky gift ejanken contestf (Rock, Paper and Scissors) was held. Thanks to the generosity of the special sponsor Nestle Purina Petcare, and various other companies, there were many donated gifts available to win. The audience naturally joined in with great enthusiasm and, as each janken was efoughtf, all involved became increasingly excited. The Janken Contest continued until dusk when the light began to fade.

As mentioned, this yearfs event was held as a part of commemorations for the 10th Anniversary of the Great Earthquake. Therefore, there was also an exhibition of photos and panels set up by the Great Earthquake Animal Rescue Memorial Association. This undoubtedly allowed an opportunity for people to remember the quake. Certainly some of the participants looked over the exhibition most carefully and with serious interest.

At the Knots Corner, popular
cookies were on sale and a survey by questionnaire was also conducted.
For the canine visitors,
there were tempting samples of wild boar ribs, wild boar leg bones,
and snack jerkies as provided by Misato-Town in Shimane Prefecture
which
currently has a project to make wild boar products. (Sales actually
start next Spring). We wonder how your dogs enjoyed them? This time
we had
more stores under the roof so the space was even more lively than usual. |

Despite the bad weather (which almost seems to be a norm for Knots events), we wish to thank everybody for participating. It was nice to see so many people and dogs interacting and so many people taking pictures. Knots feels a sense of great accomplishment that this festival event has allowed people to have such a good time with the animals they love, to strengthen their friendships, to improve their social and handling skills, and to tie new knots that bind and connect people and dogs together.
Finally, we would like to give our sincere thanks to the many individuals from the supporting companies and stores, and to the volunteer staff who were always so dedicated in the help they gave, no matter how demanding the work. We must not forget to mention Mr. Shin from Shinho Supplies who came all the way from Korea to bring the leads for the gig race (a gift to the participants from Hotta Corp.) in the morning of the event Thank you very much! |
